Proverbs 29:18 introduces a counter-intuitive perspective on the role of restraints in our lives. This ancient wisdom, portrays the fool as one who shuns restraints, perceiving them as restrictive. While the wise person sees restraints as wisdom for their lives.

From the fool's viewpoint, restraints prevent us from doing certain things and may feel as though they hold us back. However, what the fool fails to understand is that an absence of restraints can lead to an overwhelming sense of freedom that may disorient rather than liberate. Without restraints, we lack guidance in life, often leading to aimless wandering in an attempt to fabricate a sense of purpose.

The wise individual understands and appreciates the function of restraints. They acknowledge that God has preordained these limitations not to constrain, but rather to steer them towards His divine purpose for their lives. Through the lens of wisdom, restraints are seen not as barriers but as signposts guiding us along the path of purposeful living.

Without restraints, we say yes to everything, but ultimately know to purpose.

Lord, help us to see the restraints in our lives, as your sovereign hand guiding us to accomplish your will.
