Meditation
Proverbs 9:12 is a powerful verse that highlights the importance of wisdom and the destructive nature of mockery. The verse suggests that those who seek knowledge and understanding will be rewarded, while those who mock or ignore wisdom will suffer the consequences. This dichotomy of building up through wisdom and tearing down through mockery is a recurring theme throughout the book of Proverbs. The wise are praised for their discernment and ability to make good choices, while the foolish and wicked are condemned for their destructive behavior.
The reason wisdom builds up is that wisdom wants to be shared with others. When you share wisdom with others, they are built up. Then we build others up the wise are rewarded. In contrast, the mocker tears down. By rejecting wisdom and refusing to learn from others, the mocker not only harms themselves but also those around them. They are not interested in building up others or contributing to the community. Instead, they seek to tear others down and belittle those who try to help them. As a result, the mocker suffers alone and is isolated from others.
Overall, Proverbs 9:12 emphasizes the importance of seeking wisdom and sharing it with others to build up the community. By doing so, we can create a better world for ourselves and those around us. On the other hand, mockery and rejection of wisdom only lead to destruction and isolation.
In the past, it was believed that prioritizing the needs of one's family and community was necessary for personal thriving. However, modern culture rejects this notion and encourages individuals to focus on their own desires and demand recognition from others, regardless of the impact on relationships. As a result, many people feel isolated and disconnected from others. Those who mock and reject community values often end up without true friends, suffering alone.
Christians, however, prioritize the will of God over the individual or the community. Through belief in the gospel, prideful barriers that divide people are broken down, leading to deeper and more meaningful relationships. Psalm 68:6 and John 1:12-13 suggest that salvation leads to being part of a family, while sin leads to isolation.
