Proverb of the day
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.

Meditation
This proverb is all about the downward spiral of laziness. How many times do you snooze in the morning? How many alarms do you have on your phone? The proverb says that laziness brings deep sleep, which is just for one night. But then the proverb continues saying that the sleep is so deep they're not even shifting. In other words, they have no concern of regard for life or the next day. Most of us have had sleepless nights because of what is planned the next day. Not this person. Their laziness compounds every day to joblessness and hunger.
Sloth, or laziness, first makes you feel like you're in a deep sleep, and then it leads to hunger. What this means is that being lazy can slowly eat away at your ability to work hard. Think of it this way: If you haven't been exercising, you can't just get up one day and run a marathon. In the same way, someone who's lazy might find it harder and harder to do any kind of hard work or thinking for long periods.
This laziness can lead to a slow loss, maybe even a permanent loss, of important work habits. These include sticking to your promises, finishing your work on time, not letting other things control you, being able to start work on your own without needing someone to push you, and taking pride in doing your work really well. If you lose these habits, or never get them in the first place, it's really hard to get them back.
Even though it seems like being lazy comes naturally to some people, there's another process, called "sanctification," that is beyond natural and can fight this laziness. Sanctification is never fully reached in this life (Philippians 3:12), but it slowly helps you become more like Christ (Ephesians 4:23–24).
Prayer
Lord, help us to be motivated every day and work for your glory. Bring to mind that you have planned our day to be your kingdom builders.
