Proverb of the day
Wisdom too high for fools
Proverb Pic

Meditation
This Proverb uses a metaphor, saying that wisdom is too high for a fool. In simpler terms, this means someone who continually makes bad decisions doesn't have the necessary qualities, like humility and religious devotion, to understand or reach wisdom. This wisdom is described as "heavenly" and is seen as necessary for dealing with matters wisely.
The term "fool" in this context refers to someone who persistently makes poor decisions or actions, seemingly learning little or nothing from past mistakes. This individual is described as 'incorrigible' or unable to be corrected or improved. According to Waltke, such a person lacks two critical qualities - humility and piety.
Humility involves recognizing our limits and understanding that we don't have all the answers. It allows us to be open to learning from others and our own experiences. Piety, on the other hand, refers to a deep sense of respect and devotion, often in a religious or spiritual sense. It can guide us towards making choices that align with our values and beliefs.
In the metaphor, these qualities are like 'wings' that allow someone to soar high enough to reach 'heavenly wisdom.' This term implies a superior form of understanding or insight, the kind that is vital for managing public affairs - essentially, decisions and actions that affect the community as a whole. This is hinted at in references to Proverbs 8:15-16.
"Wisdom is too high for fools" is an expression that essentially means that wisdom — the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight — is beyond the grasp of individuals who lack judgement, or 'fools'. This phrase implies that such individuals might not appreciate, comprehend, or correctly utilize wisdom even if it's given to them, because they lack the necessary perspective or insight.
This saying is often used to convey frustration or resignation when wise advice or guidance is not understood or is dismissed by the person it's given to. However, it's important to use such expressions with care, as they can seem judgmental or condescending. Everyone learns and grows at their own pace, and what might seem like foolishness at one moment can often be a stepping stone toward greater understanding.
Prayer
Lord, build into the kinds of people that can be wise. Give us knowledge, understanding, humility and wisdom.
