In our modern day, we think about our hearts as being our emotions and our head as our thoughts. But in the bible, the heart is believed to be the center of our deepest trusts, commitments, and loves, which shape our thoughts, feelings, and actions. What the heart holds dear, the mind finds reasonable, the emotions find desirable, and the will finds achievable. The passage suggests that while the heart is the center of control, our words, eyes, and feet can also impact it. The things we consume, the thoughts we entertain, and the things we do start to capture our hearts.

What we think, do, and say can make its way into our hearts if we are not guarding them. Speaking negatively about someone can cause bitterness in our hearts toward them. If our thoughts are consumed with consuming things then we are starting to walk down the path of our life being engulfed by consumerism where what we think do and say is all about getting more. Then, because we have placed our hearts in that type of environment, that becomes the desire of our hearts. The world is calling our hearts to worship as well. Our hearts are modelable in this way. Our ultimate loves and desire are shaped by what we think do and say not by ideas presented to us. The best way to protect our hearts and gain wisdom is through worship, where every aspect of our being is oriented toward God. If we gaze too long at something, it can capture our hearts through our imagination. Likewise, if we gaze at Jesus and what he did for us at the cross, his love can capture our imagination.

Prayer

Lord, help us walk in a way that what we think, do, and say helps you be on top of our minds. Let our imaginations be captured by you and your kingdom.
