Meditation

This proverb is all about how you think about yourself. God wants us to be wise. He does not want us to be wise in our own eyes. How you think about yourself has a dramatic impact on the wisdom you have. If you think you have great wisdom it actually shows you have a great ego. That you think much of yourself. This is the breeding ground of foolishness. Generally, the bigger, the ego, the more foolish the person is. The smaller the ego, the more humble and wise the person is. Why? Ego does not listen. Wisdom is a constant learner. Ego thinks it knows it all. Wisdom knows there is much to learn. Ego is arrogant. Wisdom is humble.

Fools are wise in their own eyes. It's funny how some people think they've got it all figured out. They don't bother seeking advice, while others only listen to a certain type of guidance. Take teenagers, for instance; they often shrug off advice from older folks but turn to their friends for help. And it's not just them - lots of us only pay attention to people who share our background or beliefs, ignoring everyone else.

True wisdom means looking at the world through as many perspectives as possible, including the Word of God, the views of friends, and the opinions of people from different backgrounds and ideologies, even critics. Smart folks surround themselves with a diverse group of counselors, mentors, and friends who can offer a fresh take on things.

The gospel is an amazing resource for fostering a teachable spirit. It reminds us that we're all imperfect, but it also assures us of God's unconditional love through Christ. This understanding allows us to face our shortcomings without denial, paving the way for growth and true wisdom..

Prayer

Lord, help to build an environment in my head and heart for wisdom to grow. Humble and encourage me through your gospel.
