Meditation

Proverbs 3:34 teaches us a sobering truth about God's wisdom. At the end of the day, you get what you deserve. God allows you to make choices to either accept his wisdom or deny his wisdom. From there the consequences follow. This proverb shows us that if you decline his wisdom, he will mock you, because you chose not to listen. On the other hand, if you except his wisdom, he will show favor to you. Even if it's not perfect obedience to his wisdom, he will still show favor to you, because he is loving and gracious. So at the end of the day, you get what you deserve. But this makes the gospel is good news that Jesus got what we deserve.

When we choose to deny God's wisdom, we are essentially rejecting the guidance and direction He offers. In doing so, we are paving the way for unfavorable consequences. God, in His infinite wisdom, allows us to make these choices, and if we opt for ignorance, He will, in a sense, mock us, not out of spite, but as a consequence of our decision to disregard His wisdom.

Conversely, when we accept and embrace God's wisdom, even if imperfectly, He bestows His favor upon us. God's love and grace are boundless, and He extends them to those who seek His wisdom and endeavor to walk in it.

This proverb points us to a fundamental aspect of our relationship with God: the concept of reaping what we sow. It serves as a sobering reminder of the cause-and-effect nature of our decisions, emphasizing the importance of seeking God's guidance in all aspects of our lives.

This proverb highlights the significance of the gospel – the good news that Jesus Christ took on the consequences that we deserved. Through His sacrificial love, He bore the weight of our mistakes, offering us redemption and reconciliation with God. Jesus' death and resurrection became the bridge that allows us to receive God's wisdom, forgiveness, and eternal life. Tthe gospel assures us that through Jesus, we can find hope, grace, and the opportunity to experience a transformed life in alignment with God's wisdom.
