Good Morning 🙏

Proverb of the day
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Meditation
A famous rabbi was asked about why Jewish people are typically wealthy. He said he believes that the amount of money you have shows how much you have served others. The more you serve, the more value you provide, the more money flows to you. When you frame it that way, asking for more money without creating more value is stealing. You are asking for more without providing more. When you focus on creating value for people, money becomes the byproduct.
For example, I hear people say that they need to get paid more. People just don't get paid more because they ask. They need to provide more value to get paid more. What value are you providing to the world? Yes, we should not ascribe our personal value to what we are paid, but what we are paid is an indication of the value we are providing in the world. If you own a business, you can't just ask to be paid more - you must earn it by delivering value to the market. It's the same for employees!
That is what this proverb is all about. The more you give away your wealth, the more it will come back to you, and the more you attempt to hoard it for yourself, the more it evaporates. How can this be? Consider farmers. The more they disperse seed, the more they will harvest. And keep in mind that the seed comes back in a better form, as harvest you can eat and sell. Likewise, spiritually wise individuals understand that their money is like seed, and the only way for them to transform it into genuine riches is by generously giving it away (cf. 2 Corinthians 9:6).
This is not a guarantee that the more you give, the more money you will earn. Instead, the more you wisely serve with your money and time, people both spiritually and physically, the more your money becomes the true wealth of transformed lives in others and of spiritual well-being in yourself.
No one gives more freely than Jesus. He will never be charged with unduly withholding any good thing from your people… except in those moments when I temporarily lose my gospel sanity. He will never come to poverty through hoarding, because He freely chose the ultimate poverty of the cross as a means of demonstrating over-the-top generosity… making us rich. Now we are free to do the same.
