The ancient proverb from Proverbs 21:4 paints a vivid picture of the dangers of pride: "Haughty eyes and a proud heart—the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin." At the core of many unethical actions lies pride—a belief that one's desires, perspectives, or interests are superior to those of others. "Haughty eyes" represent this outward expression of internal conceit, where individuals believe they are above the rules or can manipulate them for personal gain. Such a mindset can lead to dishonesty, manipulation, and disregard for the rights and feelings of others.

The metaphor of the "unplowed field" serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of letting pride go unchecked. Just as untended land becomes overrun with weeds and thorns, unchecked pride and arrogance in an individual can sprout unethical behaviors.
