Meditation

The Book of Proverbs talks about the difference between foolishness and godly wisdom. This proverb shows us how a "fool" doesn't want to understand; they just want to say what they think. We all know someone like this. They have strong opinions and share them like they're facts. It's okay to have opinions and share them, but we should remember they're just our personal views and not facts. Other people might have different but equally valid opinions.

On the other hand, a wise person can be inferred to do the opposite. A wise person finds pleasure in understanding and delight in asking questions of others. To do this takes humility in understanding that we do not know everything. Asking questions is the best way to grow in wisdom. This helps us better understand others and be more caring and kind in our relationships.

Here are five helpful tips to ask better questions:

  1. Practice active listening: Pay close attention to the person talking, understand what they're saying, and give feedback to show you care. This makes them more comfortable sharing their thoughts.

  2. Use open-ended questions: Ask questions that start with "how," "what," "when," "where," "who," or "why." These types of questions encourage people to talk more and share their ideas.

  3. Challenge assumptions: Ask questions that make people think deeper about their beliefs. This can help everyone learn new things and see different perspectives.

  4. Don't ask leading questions: Avoid asking questions that push people towards a specific answer. Instead, use neutral words to create an open and honest conversation.

  5. Be comfortable with silence: Give people time to think about their answers. This can lead to better and more thoughtful conversations.

By using these tips, we can become better at asking questions and have more engaging conversations with others. Improving our questioning skills helps us understand others better and grow personally.

This verse reminds us of the importance of learning, understanding, and wisdom in our interactions. By following this advice, we can build deeper connections with others and focus on understanding rather than just sharing our opinions. In doing so, we follow the example of Christ, who often asked meaningful questions and listened carefully to those around Him.
